Each year, from 1 October, the National Minimum Wage is set.
The NMW effective from 1 October 2012 for eligible workers are as follows:
- 21 and over £6.19
- 18-20 £4.98
- 16-17 £3.68
- Apprentices £2.65 - under 19 or 19+ and in first year of apprenticeship
These rates apply to nearly all workers and sets hourly rates below which you must not allow pay to fall.
Please note that for 2012 the rates have only changed for workers 21 and over and for apprentices. Workers between 16 and 20 have seen their rates frozen.
